VFW Focuses on Veterans’ Mental Wellness
A former United States Marine, Adam Schwarze joined the US Navy as a Naval Special Warfare Officer in 2012 and currently serves as a lieutenant in Honolulu, Hawaii. In addition to pursuing a master of liberal arts at Harvard Extension School with certificates in international security and nuclear deterrence, Adam Schwarze maintains membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
Committed to the physical and emotional health of veterans, the VFW operates a robust Mental Wellness campaign. Focused on reducing the stigma around mental healthcare and promoting effective interventions, the holistic campaign involves partnerships with various non-profit organizations addressing key aspects of mental wellness.
For example, the Campaign to Change Direction aims to change the culture of mental health and educate family members in warning signs that a veteran needs help. Additionally, the One Mind program focuses on providing better treatment for veterans with brain illnesses and injuries. By shifting the narrative around mental illness and making mental health resources convenient and accessible for veterans, the VFW works for healthier and happier veterans, families, and communities.
